Run fast, run far...

sweet Odin! Odin fought the good fight, and lost his battle with cancer this evening. He is already sorely missed, and fully honored for a decade of loving service to me and later, mtw and eaw. When eaw woke up from his afternoon nap today, I asked him what he wanted to do. "Sit with Odin." Sat they did, and shared a final afternoon together.Odin went peacefully, embracing the ease that finally came to his worn out and pained body. mtw and mdw held him close while grandma durham (who is visiting - post to follow) took eaw to the park to enjoy a beautiful late spring day. There is a hopeful metaphor in there somewhere, but I am too sad right now to articulate it - something about vitality and change. There is a void in the house tonight, and his absence is softened by thoughts of him running - pain free and fast - side by side with Loulou and Oreo and all the other loved or lost pets. Thank you for your companionship and patient soul.

Odin will be sorely missed. Our hearts (and a few tears) are with you tonight. I'm glad Odin is free from pain, but know the pain you must be feeling now. We love you.

How grateful I am for the many walks I have shared with Odin--in Salt Lake City, in Philadelphia, and in Columbus including nearly a full week in early May 2009.

He is a beautiful dog and I too shall miss him and hope that a "peace that passeth understanding" will descend on each of us but especially on Meghan, Michael, Eddy Alexander, and Samantha.

Love to all!!
